denial of testing and mixing of prisoners who have tested positive with others stokes fears of infection

Two weeks ago, some new people were brought into the unit in 6 building where I was living before. They were not tested or quarantined when they got here, and then they tested positive a few days later. Because of that, they moved me to another pod in Housing Unit 6. In this pod, there is no social distancing and no one was instructed to wear their masks until last week. People are being moved in and out of different rooms but none of the rooms are being sanitized. The cleaning supplies that the jail provides don’t actually disinfect surfaces, and only some of the deputies will give them to you. The deputies also only give soap when you ask for it.

We were removed from our cells for a professional cleaning about a month ago. They took us outside to take showers and it was impossible to social distance. They didn’t really clean our cells: they just sprayed and wiped the cells down, but all the dirt and mold just went to the corners, and there was still mold in our blankets.

The staff haven’t been taking my temperature. I’ve requested testing twice, but I never got a response and haven’t been tested since about a month ago. I’m worried because I’m celled with someone who previously tested positive, and we’re scared he could test positive again even though he has been declared recovered. 80% of my unit tested positive three months ago, and two of them got sick a second time. We’re scared, because we can’t practice social distancing and there are deputies that tested positive. There are a couple of deputies that were in my unit that haven’t come back since the pandemic started, and no one in the pod has been tested at all.
