prisoner repeatedly harassed by deputy; reports denial of testing, inappropriate use of strip searches, solitary confinement, and other abuses

Deputy Chong came into my room and touched my buttocks to wake me up. I was using my sheets to block the light and he told me to take the sheet down. I wrote a grievance and they never responded. It’s been 2 or 3 months, and I know his body camera was on. Deputy Chong harasses me, ever since he bothered me about the sheet and hit me on the buttocks. He always bothers me about the sheet even though a lot of other people use sheets to block the light, but only I get harassed about it. I filed a grievance about that too but it was denied.

Deputy Jackson was walking through one night and strip searched my cellie because he was up at 2 A.M. He said he smelled someone smoking. Then he woke me up and strip searched me too, but he made me touch my toes. Every other time I’ve been strip searched they had me squat and cough, but Deputy Jackson made me touch my toes, and he was smiling the whole time like he was enjoying it. I filed a grievance, and they said they reviewed the footage and found no misconduct. But there shouldn’t have been footage of that if it was a strip search.

I had a cough, headache, body aches. At first nurses and deputies kept telling me they didn’t need to test me even though I had symptoms. A month went by and I was only tested because my lawyer called. Everyone’s scared to get tested because they don’t want to go to the hole. A nurse told me, “You’ll have to go to building 8 if you want to get tested, and I don’t think you want to go there.”

When I was tested for coronavirus, they put me in a room where someone who had COVID had lived, without cleaning the room. I tested negative, but I could have caught it there. But they put me back in with everyone else after 3 days in that room. For cleaning, the disinfectant they give is watered down or blue window cleaner. They only just started letting us clean our rooms daily, but they still don’t give bleach. The deputies use bleach for themselves, but don’t give any to people to clean their rooms.

I also had a toothache and it took 4 months to get treatment. By the time I got treatment, I was up all night with pain and had to get my tooth pulled.

The public should know that inmates inside are suffering from our lack of medical help, dental care, food, yard time—we get yard two times a week to see daylight, only 4 hours at best. They should know that there are unsanitary conditions and a lot of police misconduct.

Being in my cell so much, it’s stressful. It’s depressing. It takes a toll on you. To feel better, I work out, read books, and play games with my cellie, but he’s very stressed too, so neither of us really feels better.
